Linden policemen, court officials and cleaner arrested for corruption

LINDEN – Officials allegedly arrested for selling a warrant of arrest for R5 000.

Two detective constables of Linden Police Station were arrested for corruption on 14 May.

This followed after investigations into corrupt activities at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court. Three court clerks and a cleaner were also nabbed.

Police acted on information relating to corrupt activities at the court. These activities relate to criminal proceedings of the accused in several court cases.

“A case of corruption and defeating the ends of justice is being investigated by the Hawks,” said SAPS Provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

According to @crimeairnetwork on twitter, the suspects were arrested for selling a warrant of arrest for R5 000.

According to Lt Col Dlamini, thorough investigations are being done to make sure that all involved are brought to book.

“They were arrested following information from Carte Blanche and other suspects may be arrested as investigations are continuing,” he said.

He added that every community effort to detect corruption and assist in the fight against crime is applauded by police management.

“Corrupt police officers are a burden to the service.”

Police are also appealing to the members of the public to report any suspicious circumstances at all times.

The suspects are expected to appear in court within 48 hours.
