SOPHIATOWN – Another racist letter in the form of a pamphlet has surfaced in Sophiatown and this time, with images of Sophiatown Neighbourhood Watch (SNW) chairperson Dauw Steyn plastered around it, further implicating him as a racist.

Similar to the first letter, which was sent to residents via post in March, the new letter says “No K***fers, No Bus***ns, No Ko**ies, No Foreigners in our area, everyone should f*** off, we only want whites in our area”.

According to Steyn, this letter was dropped off at shops at the Sophiatown Centre where a witness described two people who allegedly made copies of this letter.

“This is extremely stressful. My life is in danger. I never know what will happen to me because now people seeing this letter will think I am a racist of which I am not,” he said.

Steyn added that, the new letter attempts to do what the first letter failed to do, which is to isolate the SNW and its leadership from the rest of the Sophiatown community. The letter is patently defamatory and must be treated with the contempt that it deserves,” he said.

Steyn said they opened a case at the Sophiatown Police Station in March when the first lot of letters was recovered.

“Up to now we have not heard back from them since the statements were taken. We do not know if fingerprints have been done and if there is any progress on the case,” he said.

Steyn and the SNW demanded that the person/s behind these letters be brought to book and jailed.

“To every resident in Sophiatown and our surrounding suburbs we want to say thank you for your support throughout and helping us to not only stand up against the crime and social decay in our area but also against the racists in this area.”

Sophiatown Police Station spokesperson Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn confirmed that a case was opened in March when the first letter was found.

“The case is still under investigation,”he said.
