Jumble sale for funds

BRIXTON – The Brixton Community Forum assists The Brixton Methodist Church in a jumble sale.

The Brixton Methodist Church in collaboration with The Brixton Community Forum (BCF) held a jumble sale on 9 May.

The sale was held in the alley between Putney and Barnes roads, Brixton. The event saw residents come together to raise funds for various upcoming charity projects for the year.

Chairperson of the forum, Mark Schaerer was proud to assist the church with their fundraising event. “We are always happy to assist the community,” he said.

Schaerer explained that the forum started an initiative called Alley Activations, where alleyways in the Brixton would be utlised as venues for events. “There has been a lot of crime running throughout the suburb of late. Last year the forum decided that we would get people to start cleaning the alleys so that people can ultise them constructively for community purposes,” he said.

Organiser of the event from the church, Elaine Mothoo was very thankful for the community’s assistance. “I love it. I am very thankful that the community came together to support the church’s efforts. I got to know about the projects in the alleys through the community forum – it is constructive and you meet new people every time,” she said.
