Health hazard or not?

ALBERTSKROON – Recycling business could pose a health hazard, according to an Alberskroon resident.

Recycling business Barryone is in question for operating in a residential area. The business is located at the corner of Fifth and Tenth Street in Albertskroon. Barryone is a recycling business that collects plastic from malls and then sorts it into grades. Plastic is then sold to people who recycle it.

A resident Dean Hoosain, from two streets down, says the business poses a definite health hazard to the community because of the location being directly opposite the public pool and, it being a residential area.” My children use that pool sometimes and I am afraid that this will be a hazard. There is recycling stuff being left on the side of the pavement – this is just not healthy,” commented Hossain.

However, according to co-owner of Barryone, Forman Hilton, the business is not a hazard as the only reason that there is plastic on the pavement is because the business has expanded and the building next to it had to be bought. The new building is currently under renovation and hence the reason for the plastic on the pavement.

“Once the renovations are completed, it [the plastic] will be moved inside the premises, it has been like this for about a month and I do understand the urgency of it being moved,” said Hilton.

Hoosain claimed that the plastic on the pavement attracts trolley men, who perpetrate crime in the area. “We as residents do not want the value of the area to go down because of the level of crime,” he said.

He urged the community to not be afraid to speak up if they should have the same concern as him.
