Mama Love celebrates her 100th birthday

FAIRLAND – Iris Mulville celebrated her centenary birthday on 10 May.

Family and friends of Iris Mulville (also known as Mama Love) gathered at the Fairland Retirement Home on 10 May to celebrate her 100th birthday. Mama Love is a nick name that was given to Mulville by her eldest daughter Lileen Baker. “I call her Mama Love because she is just so loving and just such a gentle soul to everyone,”explained Baker.

Birthday cards were made by Mulville’s great-grandchildren stating how much they loved and cared for her.”I remember my Iris – I say that because she never wants to be called ‘Granny’ or let her age to be known to anyone – as always being very soft and kind. She loves her dose of gossip,” joked grandson Sheldon Baker. He reminisced about how that during school holidays Mulville would bake the best rusks and biscuits just for him.

“This is just remarkable to be celebrating my mother’s 100th birthday. Nobody from her family has ever lived this long, we really love her and are so glad we can spend this day with her,” said Mulville’s youngest son Dudley Mulville. He explained that his mother was born blind in one eye but that never stopped her from doing anything. She still sewed, baked, gardened and enjoyed herself. A slideshow was compiled by Dudley showcasing the timeline of his mother’s life and her beauty.

Mulville’s second daughter Judy Anderson said her mother is amazing with all the love and support she gives.

Tracey Mulville described her mother-in-law as a very welcoming and down-to-earth person as she never made anyone feel uncomfortable. “I must share her secret to longevity: Do not do any exercise, do not drink water – only tea, eat lots of chocolate with a little bit of drinking and smoking now and then,” giggled Tracey.
