‘Chicken never intended to be sold’

BRAAMFONTEIN – Photos of chicken washed on pavement are addressed by KFC.

KFC has responded regarding photos that went viral on social media, of chicken being washed by its employees with a hosepipe on a dirty pavement, allegedly at its Braamfontein outlet. KFC posted on Facebook, “Like you, we were really shocked to see the pictures posted from KFC Braamfontein, and at first couldn’t believe what we were seeing. We immediately closed the store while we investigated and were extremely relieved to find out that this was discarded chicken, never intended to be sold.”

The post continued that that particular chicken had not met the brand’s high quality standards, and was set aside by the Braamfontein store for disposal. “This is a good thing,” the post continued. “But the way in which they handled the product to be disposed of definitely did not follow our procedures… The team had some waste that they had discarded with breading on it and they were washing it off to hide it from management.”

The post added that KFC has already dealt “very firmly” with the owner and responsible employees.

Media reported that the store had reopened on 9 May.
