WRA reports back to the community

WESTDENE – Resident’s association hosts its second general meeting.

Residents and committee members of the Westdene Resident’s Association (WRA) met for the association’s second general meeting of the year, at the Westdene Recreational Centre on 7 May.

Portfoilio updates and reports were provided by the association concerning communes, bylaw implementation, open spaces, and social responsibilities within the area. Chairperson of the association Professor Reinout Meijboom led most of the proceedings.

Some points made at the meeting were:

  • There was a recent overhaul of installed cables in Westdene.
  • There are still some circuit breaker boxes that need to be replaced.
  • The association urged residents to report faulty street lights and illegal dumping and to forward their reference numbers to the association.

The association discussed developments set to happen at Westdene Dam and Melville Koppies Nature Reserve. Social responsibilities in the area involving work done by the community at the Eeufees Retirement Home in Westdene, were also discussed.

A number of residents and members of the community were awarded the association’s Heart of Westdene award for their contributions made toward the community. The recipients of the awards were Neilen and Benita Nunes, David Pailman, Tania Steenkamp, Jan Vermaak, and Rosa Vucevic.

Prof Meijboom pointed out how the residents of Westdene need to stand together in order to successfully facilitate positive change in the community. “We want to develop and foster a safe, clean, and responsible community for all,” he concluded.
