Art and literature worlds combine

MELVILLE — Sylt Foundation holds get together for African novelist.

The Sylt Foundation hosted a literary get together on 6 May in Melville to welcome award-winning Nigerian novelist, Helon Habila to the country.

The intimate reception was attended by artists and literature scholars and the great novelist, Dr Don Mattera.

Indra Wussow from the Sylt Foundation said they support artists, writers and composers in several parts of the world.

“The purpose is to provide a conducive creative space for artists in Germany and Johannesburg to reflect on their work as well as to access the foundation’s international network. This includes artists, cultural facilitators and audience members,” she added.

Helon Habila is a novelist and worked as a journalist in Lagos before moving to England. In 2002 he published his first novel Waiting for an Angel. In 2015 he won the prestigious Windham Campbell award.

He founded and currently serves on the advisory board of the African Writers trust, which seeks to help African writers collaborate to promote the sharing of skills and other resources.
