No relief for motorists

JOBURG – Petrol price will remain unchanged yet other fuel prices will decrease.

Consumers will continue to dig deep into their pockets as the Department of Energy announced minimal changes to fuel prices as of 6 May.

Petrol price will remain the same; however the price of diesel and other fuels will change.

Diesel will decrease by 5.00 cents/ litre, illuminating paraffin will decrease by 7.00 cents per litre and liquefied petroleum gas will decrease by 17.00 cents per kilogram.

According to the department’s spokesperson Lerato Ntsoko, international factors contributing to the adjustments include the fact that South Africa imports both crude oil and finished products at a price set by the global market including shipping costs.

Ntsoko added that, “The main factors contributing to these price adjustments are the average increase in the crude oil and petrol prices internationally and the slightly weaker rand during April 2015 compared to March 2015”.

According to Ntsoko, the international price of Brent crude oil experienced a slight increase and the international product prices increased on average for petrol while the diesel prices decreased.

“This is due to the changes in the demand and supply pattern for petrol and diesel in the northern hemisphere as they move away from winter and begin their driving season.”
