Greenside High undefeated

ROOSEVELT – Greenside High School’s first rugby team maintained their winning streak by beating Roosevelt High 22 - 3 in the Buffalo league game on 29 April.

Greenside High School’s first rugby team collided with Roosevelt High School in a gruelling Buffalo league game on 29 April.

The derby, held at Roosevelt, started off with both teams looking confident and ready for battle.

However, a few minutes into the game, Greenside’s Nhlakanepho Buthelezi penetrated Roosevelt’s wall and the team, at that point, lead with 5 points. Ten minutes into the game, Greenside increased the score to 10 points and this left the home team speechless.

Roosevelt seemed to struggle; however, shortly thereafter, the home team was rewarded with a penalty and the score line was 10 – 3.

The home team had their chances but a lack of composure, and failure to penetrate Greenside’s wall, cost them.

Greenside’s defence kept their ground and forced the home team to commit errors.

The game ended with Greenside winning 22 – 3.

Greenside’s rugby head coach Jacob Ngwenya was excited about maintaining an impressive winning streak

“The boys did very well – this year we have never been beaten, however I am not happy with the score, but a win is a win, we can take it,” said Ngwenya.

“We will be working hard to get to the finals.”

The Buffalo league finals will be held on 3 June at the Marks Park Sports Club.
