Gauteng tops with the highest salaries
JOBURG — City of gold has some of the highest paid professionals in the country.
Gauteng professionals earn better salaries than their counterparts compared to the rest of the country.
This is according to a salary review by Career Junction, which covered the fourth quarter of 2014.
Beverly van der Merwe, managing and HR director at Gratech Recruitment agency in Ferndale, said it is not surprising that Gauteng has the highest paid professionals because there is far more competition in the province.
“There is more competition in Gauteng because a lot of the head offices are here. There are also more job benefits and there is a wider selection of candidates,” she explained.
Van der Merwe continued that on the salary scale ranking, Johannesburg is followed by Cape Town with Durban coming in third. In recent years, the job market has shifted from a client-driven market to candidate-driven one because of the skills shortage in some industries.
