What is it with women and their hair?

JOBURG – Hair experts says women will do just about anything they can to look beautiful.

Ever wondered why women change their hair every single chance they get?

Salon owner from Melville, Lizzy Ranamane said women will do everything they can to look beautiful – from Brazilian hair to Indian hair, extensions or even natural hair.

“A lot of women who come into the salon, spend a lot of money on their hair, and they love getting longer hair. It is the one thing that a woman can change to look different and feel beautiful,” Ranamane admitted.

Another salon owner Michelle Brown said most of the women who come to her salon, don’t feel guilty after spending a fortune on their hair.

“It is all about looking good and feeling good, and for most women, hair makes them feel that way.” said Brown.

Merlene Spies of Figures Models in Randburg said if a model enters the international modelling world, agents prefer natural hair.

“It is shown, and depending on the ethnic groups, it seems that everyone would prefer long or longer hair,” said Spies.

“International agents do not like weaves, extensions or hair straightener products to be put on their hair. We have girls who went to New York with weaves in their hair and they were asked to remove them.”

Spies added, normally if an agent is interested in hiring you, they will tell you upfront what they want and perhaps even ask you to remove it from your hair, to see you in your most natural state.

“This goes for girls with long hair as well, using a hair straightener or even a curling enhancer in their hair is a no-no, and are told to wash and just leave their hair – this is also more healthier for your hair,” said Spies.

Scandal actress Mapaseka Koetle said,”I don’t have a problem with weaves, but personally, I am more confident with my natural hair than when I have a weave.”

Koetle also questioned,”How can one not be confident with beautiful, healthy, natural hair, with a strong hairline?”

Recently, national reports stated that legendary trumpeter Hugh Masekela

said he doesn’t take pictures with women who wear weaves or hair

extensions.
