What you can do for Earth Day

JOHANNESBURG – Harry the Hominid says that humans must protect Earth's environment.

Harry the Hominid says humans must act to save Earth. Harry, the spokeshominid for Maropeng, the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, spoke out on Earth Day (22 April). Earth Day is a global movement held annually to promote awareness of and appreciation for Earth’s environmental issues. The day offers an opportunity for people to commit to building a safer, healthier, cleaner, and sustainable world.

According to Harry, humans need to take responsibility for the problems Earth now faces, and help find solutions. “There is no Plan(et) B,” he says. “There are many things we can both as individuals and collectively do to make a difference. Let us get sustainably involved.”

To help protect Earth, Harry offers the following tips:

– Whenever you can, walk instead of travelling by car. You can also share a ride with someone else or use public transport.

– Eat less meat and chicken as the animals we eat also produce a lot of methane gas from the feed they eat.

– Use less electricity by switching off the lights and appliances you are not using.

– Use your own shopping bags, not plastic ones, as greenhouse gasses form while plastic bags are made.

– Use less paper, as lots of gasses are also produced in the paper-making process.hominid
