Power is yet to be restored in certain parts of Roosevelt Park and Northcliff.

The City Power Roosevelt Park substation caught alight on 20 April at 9.35am, affecting electricity supply supply in surrounding suburbs. (See previous story)

According to City Power spokesperson Sol Masolo, “There were chambers that were damaged by the fire, these are the chambers that supply power to the certain streets in those two areas.”

Masolo said, “Montgomery Park and other affected area’s have had their power supply restored.”

Ward 88 councillor Pat Richards said, “Some of the streets that are affected due to cable theft or cable damage are: Lawley, Xhosa, Mendelson and Prillar.”

Richards said City Power is working on restoring power to this area.

“I saw them digging up the under ground cables earlier on today.”

Sol Masolo further said, “The power should be restored before the end of the day.”

The reason for the fire is not yet confirmed.
