Greenpeace empowers Johannesburg Junior Council

RICHMOND – The Johannesburg Junior Council were empowered with knowledge during a two-day workshop at Greenpeace Africa.

Greenpeace Africa treated the Johannesburg Junior Council pupils to a two-day informative workshop.

Pupils, who are members of both the Environmental and Social Media Committee and who are also in Grade 11, gathered at the Greenpeace office in Richmond.

The youngsters had an opportunity to engage with experts about the importance of storytelling, blog writing and how to use social media.

Offline mobilisation campaigner Dianne McAlpine said the initiative is aimed to empower the youth.

“Since we started in 2013, it has been great empowering students about topics that interest them,” said McAlpine.

“We enjoy engaging with the youth, and teaching them how to build themselves and it literally gives me goosebumps, because whenever I get an opportunity to see people learn, it is a breath of fresh air,” she said.

“The main aim of the workshop is to hand over some skills to the youth, so that they can build their confidence,” McAlpine added.

Head of Environmental Committee Emma Knight (17) expressed her enthusiasm about the workshop.

“It is really nice to learn from people who are so passionate about their careers.

“The workshop is really a good platform to learn and be motivated going forward,” said Knight.
