Siblings achieve big at talent competition

PARKTOWN – DSJ pupils and siblings shine at 'Talent Africa' nationals.

Pupils from the Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) recently earned themselves a bounty of awards at the Talent Africa nationals held at the Pro-Musica Theatre, Florida Park.

The DSJ pupils involved were the Alderton siblings, Andreas (Grade 0), Jenna (Grade 3) and Michael (Grade 8).

The siblings were also awarded their Gauteng colours, SA colours, certificates, medals and trophies. Andreas was awarded five gold medals and one silver medal, while Jenna was awarded 12 gold medals and one silver medal. Michael was awarded eight gold medals and four silver medals.

They represented Linda Theron Drama Studio. Overall, the studio qualified at Gauteng Regional with 37 students, who all qualified for their SA colours to compete internationally in New York. The studio won an astonishing number of medals: 237 gold, 124 silver and 9 bronze, various trophies and overall awards as well as the overall drama school.

Drama teacher Linda Theron was extremely proud of the children’s accomplishments at the competition. “Hard work always pays off. These students spent hours and hours rehearsing their monologues. I must always remind myself that English is their second language. I have to compliment Jenna, she is a very dedicated student and I have never in my teaching career come across such a young student who can deliver a dramatic monologue the way Jenna did. Her performances sends goosebumps up your arms. I am proud to say these siblings are part of my studio,” she said.

The siblings’ stage performances secured them selection as part of TEAM SA to go to New York to participate in the international round of the competition at Talent America from 5 to 17 June, representing South Africa.

Michael was very excited about this opportunity. “We are thrilled at the opportunity to go New York. Its a dream come true for all of us,” he said.
