JOBURG – South African roads have become dangerous, here are the five most horrific truck accidents that occurred recently.

Following the recent fatal accident that claimed Minister Collins Chabane and two of his body guards’ lives, Congress of the people (Cope) called for Government to review the present road rail transport.

“We would like to see firm proposals on the table limiting trucks on our roads,” said Cope spokesperson, Dennis Bloem.

Bloem also highlighted, “The Easter long weekend is the time to show a new determination by Government to curb traffic violations.”

Here are five of the Nation’s most traumatic truck accidents

•Deadly N12 crash Alberton

Late last year when motorist were making their way to work, an 18-wheeler truck crashed into around 50 cars on the highway. The collision claimed four lives. Gauteng traffic authorities said the truck was found to be unroadworthy.

•Head on collision at Jim Fouché and Constantia roads intersection.

Earlier on 16 March, a man was killed and another injured when a bakkie and truck collided head-on at the Jim Fouché and Constantia roads intersection, west of Johannesburg

•Pinetown truck accident

The most traumatic truck accident by far is the Pinetown truck accident. On the evening of 5 September 2013, in rush-hour traffic, a truck smashed into four minibus taxis and two cars at an intersection at the bottom of Fields Hill in Pinetown. Twenty-two people died at the scene. Two died later in hospital.

•A delivery truck injures a man

A man, believed to be in his 50s was found on the ground, after a delivery truck knocked him and pushed him against a wall on 18 February. The incident happened at a shopping centre in North Riding. He was assessed by ER24 paramedics and provided with advanced life support treatment.

• Truck collision in Ruimsig

Recently, two men were injured after a truck crashed into a wall at the Doreen and Totius roads intersection in Ruimsig.

On assessment, paramedics found that both men had sustained moderate injuries in the collision.
