Police statements scrutinised at Tibbetts trial

WESTBURY – Mokwena failed to mention that he pointed a toy gun at Khakhu.

As the Luke Tibbetts murder trial continues at the High Court sitting at Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court, police statements have been scrutinised.

Lindray Khakhu’s lawyer Sog van Eck accused State witness Keenan Mokwena of lying when he claimed that he pointed a firearm at Khakhu.

Van Eck highlighted discrepancies between Mokwena’s statement to the police and his evidence in court.

While cross-examining Khakhu, Van Eck said Mokwena had failed to mention in the statement that he pointed a toy gun and not a real gun at Khakhu.

Mokwena, however, admitted that in his original statement he failed to say he pointed a toy gun.

“I pray the judicial system does not fail us this time not that it would fix anything but because it would be right,” said the administrator of the ‘Pray for Luke Llewellyn Tibbetts.

The accused is facing 18 gun-related charges, including the murder of Luke Tibbetts.

Khakhu has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
