Yoga stops traffic

EMMARENTIA — Take part in the global event that is putting a stop to human trafficking.

Ordinary South Africans are encouraged to take part in the global movement, Yoga Stops Traffic on 15 March in Emmarentia.

The event is held once a year to raise awareness and help prevent human trafficking and violence against women and children.

The proceeds go toward rescuing and rehabilitating victims while preventing trafficking and gender-based violence in high-risk communities.

According to the first LexisNexis human trafficking awareness index, 540 people – 67 of whom are children – were potentially trafficked into and within South Africa in the last two years.

It further revealed that 96 of those persons were for sexual exploitation, 271 for forced labour, 90 for organ trafficking, four for forced marriages and two were used as drug mules.

Renowned yoga teacher Steven Heyman will be leading the event on 15 March and contemporary artist Glen Josselsohn has endorsed the cause with one of his pieces of art. Donations and proceeds from the day will be given to an international organisation, Odanadi, and a South African charity.
