GALLERY: DSJ open day reels in prospective pupils

PARKTOWN – Die Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg recently hosted their official Open Day to prospective pupils and parents.

The Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) hosted its Open Day on Saturday 7 March.

DSJ was buzzing with activity as prospective pupils and parents flocked to the see what the school had to offer.

The school ran on a Monday timetable in order to demonstrate a normal school day at the DSJ.

A variety of stands and activities that illustrated the school’s different facilities and programmes were present .

School principal Thomas Bachmeier said they tried to show the very best of what the school has to offer.

“We have planned so many activities for the day. The pupils and staff members were really proud of carrying the DSJ name,” he said.

Bachmeier pointed out that the school aimed to promote a diverse array of pupils.

“At the DSJ, it doesn’t matter where you come from. We promote growth by working and learning together,” he said.

Grade 12 pupil Kelly-Anne Maclachlan was very excited to be able to showcase the facilities to visitors.

“The Open Day has been a wonderful experience. We received so many wonderful guests interested in the school,” she said.

Deputy principal Jan van Wyk said the day’s proceedings ran smoothly.

“It’s been a very busy and lively Open Day. We are very pleased with the large turnout of interested parents. We have our prefects taking the visitors on a tour of the school and inside classrooms as the school went through its Monday class timetable,” he said.

Former pupil and speaker at the culture section of the day’s programme, Rae Moloi, was very thankful toward the DSJ for equipping her with life skills and discipline to face varsity life.

“I am very proud to be an alumni of the DSJ,” she said.

DSJ recently celebrated its 125th birthday.
