DA Provincial Leader to visit grieving family

WESTBURY - DA visits family of electrocuted little one.

DA Gauteng Provincial Leader John Moodey MPL will be visiting the family of deceased three-year-old Mikyle Tyler Jacobs, who was recently electrocuted as a result of a power leakage in Westbury.

According to DA community operations manager Nicole Van Dyk, the Jacobs family were made aware of the planned visit from Moodey. “The family has been informed of Mr Moodey’s visit on 5 March. They are very thankful to have Mr Moodey pay them a visit during this difficult time.”

Van Dyk pointed out that the family intends to use this visit as an opportunity to highlight the ongoing power problems that has been plaguing Westbury.

According to Moodey, the community of Westbury has been experiencing massive power issues the past few weeks. This was largely due to poorly installed power mains running less than a metre below the ground and which put people in risk.

“The DA demands that the Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality immediately tend to this problem by equipping every street and private electrical box in Westbury with devices that can monitor power surges and leakages as well as investigating the safety of all the electrical boxes in the area. The energy crisis in South Africa is spiraling out of control due to a continued lack of City Power maintenance and the unnecessary death of innocent people will not be tolerated,” he said.
