Police manhunt nets three house robbers

Suspects were found hiding in a built-in cupboard with stolen loot in Roosevelt Park.

Parkview Police arrested three suspects in connection with a housebreaking and robbery on 25 February, just before 1pm.

According to Parkview Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha, police spotted a suspicious white Ford Fiesta with one occupant parked in front of a property at John Mackenzie Drive, Roosevelt Park.

The alert members (Sergeant Phineas Phalandwa and Constable Lori Makhudu) then approached the said vehicle with caution and noticed that the gate of the property where the vehicle was stationary had been derailed.

“Before the officers could stop, the vehicle then suddenly drove off at high speed, which prompted a chase from the police. They then caught up with it a few blocks away after successfully cutting it off,” he said.

The driver was subsequently arrested.

Upon returning to the scene, it was established that two of his accomplices had made off with household valuables, and the domestic worker had been threatened.

“An immediate manhunt was launched, resulting in the duo being apprehended at one of the neighbouring properties,” said Sgt Ramovha.

They were allegedly found hiding in a built-in cupboard with the stolen loot.

“We are hoping investigations will link the suspects to previous cases in the area.”

The group will appear at the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon to face charges of housebreaking and robbery and possession of stolen goods.
