Nastacia Kelsey is a go-getter who never stops following her dreams.
She currently co-owns two companies; #HashTag Productions which is an expert event management and marketing company specialising in the urban market, and AgentC SA which is an activation company that provides services like marketing solutions, logistics, design and social media management.
She is fascinated by the entertainment industry
“The entertainment industry is the place where all the other industries come together. I get to meet all different types of people from different backgrounds working in all different fields,” she said.
Kelsey holds a BA (Hons) in Information Design but there are still a few difficult parts she encounters in her industry.
“The hours are long. People don’t realise the preparation that goes into throwing an event. I work around the clock to be able to pull everything together. Weekdays, weekends – there is no such thing as 9 to 5. And after all the preparation is done, I’m still at the actual event making sure everything goes off as planned.”
She, however, loves meeting people, networking and learning of other people’s lives in her day-to-day job.
There is a long list of artist shows she has organised.
“Locally, I have been lucky enough to have worked with most of the artists in the industry. Some notable favourites are Da L.E.S, Anatii, Mahoota, Mi Casa, Mafikizolo and others. Internationally we were responsible for the I Heart Joburg after party with BoB, T-Pain and Jason Derulo as well as the Rocka Launch with Erykah Badu, Lil John and Wiz Khalifa.”
In five years, Kelsey wants to see her companies grow to include more staff.
“I would like to build a workplace of people equally as passionate about the industry. In five years, I see myself handling bigger projects on a bigger scale with a strong, passionate team behind me.”
For those who want to follow her path, Kelsey said, “Leap; this is all about risk. There is no security in this line of work but the rewards are worth it. If you believe in your ability, don’t be afraid to take a chance on things”.
Asked to list five interesting aspects about herself, Kelsey said:
- I’m a gamer. Completely obsessed with PlayStation and mobile apps.
- I love Taxi House and hip-hop. I’m a black girl at heart.
- I do all of our branding, design and animation myself.
- Disney movies are my weakness in life. I am and always will be a child at heart. #PeterPanSyndrome
