A day of glory for the Fairland feral cats

FAIRLAND – Community members came together recently at a fundraiser in support of the Fairland feral cats.

The Fairland Feral Cats Food and Fundraiser raised R8 000 for the feral cat population in the area during its recent event held on 3rd Avenue, Fairland.

The funds raised, according to event organiser Lynette Nicholson, will be used for food supplies and the sterilising of the ferals.

A large number of community members lent their support for the cause.

Feral cat care-giver Vivienne Jones was overjoyed with all the support from the organisers, volunteers, and community members.

“A huge thank you to Lynette Nicholson for organising the event and Sharon Pettigrew for all her help in organising. I could not wish for a greater team of friends on that day. I am truly overwhelmed at the all support for the ferals. I really appreciate it,” she said.

The supporters of the fundraiser included Fine and Country Randburg, which sponsored lucky draw prizes, a hamper and donated

R2 000 toward the ferals.

Crossfit FT Northcliff donated food and funds towards the cause. And the Worldwear Shopping Centre Pick n Pay donated 200 bread rolls and viennas for the occasion.

Milanie from Shades of Love offered free photography for community members who donated cat food cans to the fundraiser.

Nicholson was very thankful to the community for contributing toward the fundraiser’s huge success.

She said she plans to hold another fundraiser in the coming months.

“It was a real community event and we will be doing another one at Easter time.”

Pupils at Pinnochio Nursery School in Fairland also collected cans and bags of cat food toward the cause as a Valentine’s Day effort.

“Vivienne feeds them regularly and makes sure that they are taken to the vet for treatment and to be spayed and that any kittens are found homes. This is a wonderful charity and one that the Pinnochio pupils and teachers were proud to help out,” said the nursery school’s Donna Koopmans.

“Nine apple boxes of food were collected by the pupils. Lots of love was spread for Valentine’s Day – pupils all wore red and had heart shaped sandwiches and red jelly to celebrate the day of love.”
