SONA chaos

JOBURG – SONA was a disgrace to say the least.

The State of the Nation Address last week was a complete circus.

I watched and cringed at the utter chaos that erupted and how it was dealt with. For the first time in my life I felt ashamed to be a South African and if I had to visit overseas any time soon, I will be putting on an Australian accent so that no one knows I am from SA.

I wonder if the ruling party cannot manage to adhere to the Constitution, how it plans to curb crime, provide basic services and provide proper governance.

If I were an overseas investor, SA would be the last place I would spend my money. Between load shedding, the high crime rate, poverty, lack of proper education and a variety of other problems, SA is heading down a path of destruction.

And the only ones that have the power to turn it around seem more concerned with building multi-million rand palaces and getting rich.

It cannot be disputed that SA has come a long way in rectifying the wrongs of the past and creating equal opportunity, but it looks like we are going backward. Creating new problems and becoming a dictatorship where there is no transparency and chaos.

Something drastic needs to happen to root out the rotten apples within government and to ensure SA stays on its democratic and fair path. Otherwise we may be heading down the same road as Zimbabwe.
