Miss South Africa hopeful: Ntsiki Mkhize

JOBURG – 'The competition has been such a joy thus far and the ladies are amazing. I would say the nerves of waiting for results and interviews are challenging, but the judges put us as ease,' says Ntsiki Mkhize.

Ntsiki Mkhize is part of the Miss South Africa top 12 competitors.

She says she entered the competition because she “believes in the brand of Miss South Africa and would like the opportunity to be an ambassador for South Africa and a role model to our youth and other women”.

Ancillar Mangena had a chat with her to find out more about the Miss South Africa hopeful.

Why do you think you deserve to be Miss South Africa?

I believe my story is one of resilience. I have grown and learned a lot and worked on my development as a person and contestant. I believe I have the qualities of a Miss South Africa. I believe I am a good role model and inspiring young woman that can represent the country well.

Who was your role model as a child and how did that help in being a model?

My role models in the industry are Basetsana Khumalo and Tyra Banks. They we’re really great at their craft, intelligent and successful business women and it gave me an idea of what I would like to achieve in this space.

What did your parents first think of you being a model and were they supportive?

My parents have always been very supportive. I grew up entertaining them and putting on shows for them in the lounge, so they were not surprised by my ambitions.

If you were not a model, what other profession would you have been doing instead?

I am a partnerships and events manager for Small Business Connect, which is a newspaper focused on providing information to small business owners. I have my own business as well and this is the space I see myself operating in.

What beauty tips do you swear by?

Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. Drinking water and making sure you use products that revitalise the skin, keep you looking fresh. Adding a smile is a priceless accessory.

If a young girl or boy wanted to be a model what would be your advice to them?

My advice to any young person wanting to be a model is to firstly, do your research and understand where you want to be and where your strengths are. Stay fit and healthy. Ensure you have the right support. Try to find a good agency and get a quality portfolio. Most importantly, don’t compromise yourself and stay positive.
