UPDATE: No arrests yet in special needs school burglary

LINDEN – Casa do Sol School loses 39 iPads and five computers during burglary.

Linden Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made yet regarding the burglary of Casa do Sol School on 25 January.

Speaking on 30 January, Linden Police spokesperson Constable Carol Mulamu said a case of business burglary was opened after the school for special needs in Linden was burgled by unknown suspects.

The school’s principal Jenny Drew said that the burglars took 39 iPads, three desktop computers and two laptops.

Other equipment that was stolen included a high-pressure hose, a candy floss machine and an audiometer.

Drew believes that the burglars broke in through the roof, smashed the alarm system, and broke three locks and one door before making off with the loot by breaking the entrance gate motor and walking out.

Mulamu said that she could not confirm whether the burglars gained entry through the roof or the gate.

She did say though, that the school’s alarm went off at 6pm and a security company attended to the scene.

However, they apparently found nothing, Drew added that the burglary was a “huge loss” for the school.

“We are covered for most of the stuff. But that was all our 2014 and 2015 information and records.”

Drew added that the school would still appreciate financial help replacing some stolen equipment that was not insured.

“I think that it is a disgrace that someone would steal from a school that looks after those with special needs, ” said Linden Community Policing Forum chairperson Jadd Harding.

He added that it would be good if members of the community put together a donation for the school.
