Decland breaks another world record

WESTDENE – Local talented athlete Decland Wright broke the 600m world record on 30 January.

There is nothing stopping the 11-year-old Decland Wright from breaking world records.

The Westdene ace broke the 600m world record at the Eagles Club Invitation Meeting held at the University of Pretoria on 30 January.

Decland finished in 1:31:97 on the 600m shootout race with senior women, shattering the previous record of 1:33:07.

“It was really hard to race the women because they are older and fit, and some of them race internationally,” he said.

“It was really fun to beat the world record; I really enjoyed myself and I think that is really important.”

Last year, the talented local athlete claimed three South African titles and was also a proud title holder of four world records.

This year, Decland will focus more on South African primary school championships in March, and also breaking the 300m to 5 000m world records.
