Special needs school burgled

LINDEN – Casa do Sol School loses 39 iPads, three desktop computers and two laptops.

Casa do Sol School lost much-needed equipment and records when it was burgled on the evening of 25 January.

The school for special education in Linden had an unkown number of burglars break in through its roof, smash its alarm system, and break three locks and one door before stealing 39 iPads, three desktop computers and two laptops.

Other equipment that was stolen included a high-pressure hose, a candy floss machine and an audiometer.

No one was hurt during the incident. “It was a huge loss for us,” said the school’s principal Jenny Drew.

“We are covered for most of the stuff. But that was all our 2014 and 2015 information and records.”

She added that the school would still appreciate financial help replacing some stolen equipment that was not insured, perhaps in the form of a jumble sale. Linden Community Policing Forum chairperson Jadd Harding said that it is a “disgrace that someone would steal from a school that looks after those with special needs”.

He added that it would be good if members of the community put together a donation for the school, and could do so through his forum. Drew said that the school has opened a case at the Linden Police Station. Questions were sent to Linden Police Spokesperson Constable Carol Mulamu and comment is awaited.
