Miss Varsity Cup is looking for a true you

NORTHCLIFF – Miss Varsity Cup 2014 Zene van Blerk chats to Jeanette Chabalala about the upcoming Miss Varsity Cup competition.

University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Miss Varsity Cup is now in full swing.

Last year’s winner Zene van Blerk, who is also the head judge for this year’s competition, is confident about the impending event.

Van Blerk is fast gaining the reputation of being the most sought-after individual.

The third-year civil engineering student, who is originally from Kempton Park, is making all the right moves., with her being crowned Miss Varsity Cup and Miss Johannesburg last year indicating that she is a go-getter.

She was also part of the 24 Miss South Africa 2015 finalists.

“I am hard on myself, I drive myself to do well,” she said.

The sultry model said she will be looking for a humble and honest person to be crowned the next Miss Varsity Cup.

“There will be 20 women who will be competing this year,” said Van Blerk.

“The women who have entered this competition all have to strive to be true to themselves, they shouldn’t pretend to be something they are not. Be yourself, be humble. Don’t try to be perfect, if you are loud then be it. I am also looking for diversity. UJ is a very diverse place, and it would be great to see ladies from different cultures compete,” she said.

The contestants will also have an opportunity to choose an outfit from legit for the first home game.

“On the first home game, we will eliminate four girls and on the second home game we will eliminate six girls,” she said.

Van Blerk also highlighted that the contestants will also be judged without being aware.

“I am not looking for someone fake,” she said.

When asked if she prefers a beautiful Miss Varsity, Van Blerk said, “I won’t necessarily look for someone who is very beautiful, but I want a hard worker and someone sporty who will also be a role model and strive to win the nationals,” she said.
