Dana Winner is still a winner

JOBURG – Dana Winner still reigns supreme in the world of love songs with her angelic voice.

Bloom is a singular word that means to blossom and it’s the title of international singer Dana Winner’s new album and it’s also the name of her South African tour that will take place from 28 March to 6 April across the country.

Here is a link to Hou Vast (Hold Tight) one of Winner’s songs on her new album.

“I’m excited about the tour because South Africa is like a second home to me. It has everything – beautiful mountains, lovely people and I especially love the sunny days,” said Winner during an interview at Monte Casino.

“For the last 20 years I have been making music and it’s always been about one thing for me, and that’s soul. If you put soul into anything, it transpires into love and I love what I do.”

On the topic of love she said that her daughter is now 15 years old and she makes time to enjoy activities like badminton with her daughter. “I am not very good at it, but I enjoy it and it’s quite tricky to strike the little ‘veertjie’ (shuttlecock) with the racquet but that’s all part of the fun.

”My love for music started from a young age when, after lunch on Sundays, our family used to take the pots and grabbed the closest spoon and started making music and singing along with the loud noise.”

After recording close to 30 albums, Winner is no longer new to the industry and she admits that the latest album is a special one.

“This album contains a mix of songs that we recorded with a full orchestra and some of the songs are simpler, and it’s unnecessary to complicate and over-simplify them. So each song is different and there are four Afrikaans songs on the 12-track album.”

South African music promoter Lydia Winchester said the reason why Winner is so successful, is because she knows how to capture the hearts of her audience with her love songs that are sung in different languages.

“Winner’s Exclusive Bloom Concert Tour will start off on 28 March with her first show that will take place at the Mosaïek Teatro in Fairland. We are giving readers the opportunity to win two sets of double tickets to the show,” said Winchester.

More details will be available online about the competition.
