New Year, old battles

AUCKLAND PARK – The 16 former ‘Generations’ actors are in a bid to can the new ‘Generations: The Legacy’.

Former Generations actors who were axed last year have filed a court interdict to halt the new version of the show now called Generations: The Legacy.

“We filed the papers on Tuesday, and after that we will be allocated a court date and a judge,” representative of the axed actors Bulelani Mzamo said.

SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago reportedly said there were no plans to pull the plug on the soapie.

“I have heard stories that the actors plan to get an interdict against the SABC, but we have nothing official from them,” said Kganyago, according to Sunday World.

City Press reported that producer Mfundi Vundla is aware of the threat but dismissed it.

“I am aware of the planned legal action, but the show will go on because we have a contract with the SABC, not the actors,” Vundla was quoted saying.

It has also been reported that eTV scouted most of the former actors for a new show that will be aired at 8pm on weekdays, the same time slot as Generations: The Legacy which airs on SABC1.

The show will be called Gold Diggers.

Managing director of eTV was quoted saying “South African viewers deserve the best television. eTV is brewing a brand new and spectacular 8pm line-up in the new year.”
