Water entity says be vigilant

JOHANNESBURG – Johannesburg Water warns parents about open trenches that could be dangerous for their children during the infrastructure upgrade project that will be taking place in most suburbs across the city.

The City’s water entity Johannesburg Water (JW) issued a statement about a project that they will be rolling out across Joburg.

The entity’s external communications officer Eleanor Mavimbela said, “The project is about the renewal and rehabilitation of the water and sewer infrastructures in Johannesburg.”

She explained that this will include a lot of excavations and the entity prides itself in putting the safety of its residents first. “Whenever there is an excavation that we are busy with we ensure that the open trenches are properly barricaded and warning signage will be erected at all times during the excavation. In addition, the entity will continue to engage and educate communities throughout the city about the dangers of construction sites.”

Mavimbela added that during the construction period there will be open trenches while the pipes are being replaces or installed. “At JW, we urge residents to be vigilant where there is and open trench and we are asking parents to keep a close eye on their children and to educate them of the dangers.”
