Greenside’s class of 2014 does well

GREENSIDE – Greenside High School boasts great results produced by the class of 2014.

Former Greenside High School head boy Suleiman Momoniat has once again proved to be above average, with his matric results.

The honours blazer awardee achieved distinctions in all eight of his subjects, including a notable 95 per cent for mathematics and 84 per cent for advanced programme mathematics.

Another star of the school, Fatima Davids who was selected for the University of Witwatersrand’s top 100 during the provisional acceptance round, proved that contrary to claims made in the weekend press, girls do not excel only in all-girl schools.

Davids achieved distinctions in all seven of her subjects, including phenomenal results in subjects traditionally considered to be dominated by male pupils, such as 96 per cent for engineering graphics and design, 98 per cent for mathematics, and 92 per cent for physical sciences, as well as 96 per cent for life sciences.

Other top achievers following close behind with six distinctions each are:

– Sameel Ambaram: English, Afrikaans, mathematics, accounting (with a remarkable 91 per cent), physical sciences and life orientation

– Mohammed Shezaad Cassim: English (with an almost unheard of 91per cent), Afrikaans, mathematics, computer applications technology, geography and life orientation.

– Hishaam Khan: English, Afrikaans, mathematics, information technology, life sciences and life orientation.

– Sanil Lala: Mathematics (with an impressive 93 per cent), accounting, engineering graphics and design (with 87 per cent), life sciences (with 91 per cent), physical sciences and life orientation.

Jade Peters, Lealon Forbay, Ahmed Karani, and Lerato Mashishi each achieved five distinctions.

“With 96 per cent of the class of 2014 eligible for higher education, and close to half of all those who wrote accounting achieving distinctions – an impressive 22 – Greenside could not be happier or prouder,” said the school’s Wendy Faull.
