Bringing festive cheers

PARKVIEW - Parkview Station commander Colonel Nanda Moodley says Merry Christmas to residents.

Say cheese! Parkview Police Station Commander Colonel Nanda Moodley wishes residents a Merry Christmas.

He says he has resolved to ensure that the festive season will be as peaceful as possible.

Speaking about this year’s challenges Col Moodley says, “We have had challenges with lack of resources. We also could have done more with the community involvement in crime-fighting initiatives… It is an open secret that for crime to be fought effectively, partnerships between the police and the communities need to be strengthened and nurtured,” he says.

Despite the challenges, Col Moodley wishes one and all a merry and peaceful Christmas on behalf of his station.

During the season of goodwill, he also urges holiday goers not to leave their properties/homes unattended.

“We suggest that if you will be out of town for a while, rather leave a family member looking after your house. And people should carry as little cash on them as possible to avoid falling victims to robbery during this silly season. People should familiarise themselves with their neighbours as, more often, it’s the neighbours who notice suspicious activities and they are your best bet to call for help.”

He gives himself and his team a pat on the back for successful events such as Heritage Day as well as Casual Day celebrations.

“In addition, the several cases that secured convictions in court, which provide an indication that we have been doing our part as far as crime fighting is concerned,” he says.

Col Moodley’s New Year’s resolution is to see the reduction of crime in its entirety.

“Not only in our policing precinct, but the whole country,” he says.
