Load shedding times need to change

RANDBURG – Ward councillors to issue a formal request for rotating load shedding times.

Two Ward councillors have revealed that they will soon formally request the City of Johannesburg to adjust its load shedding schedule.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck said on 9 December that he and Ward 102 councillor David Potter believe that their areas are two of the most affected Wards by the planned power outages.

Instead of leaving suburbs without power at the same time of day each time there is an outage, Truluck and Potter will propose that load shedding times should alternate.

According to the current trend, Truluck explained, Roodepoort is always without power in the afternoons while Linden and Cresta are always out in the evenings.

The two Ward councillors will request that each suburb should rotate between going without power during mornings, afternoons, and evenings. “Some people are hit every night,” Truluck said.

“If it was at least spread then they can have the odd break in the evening and can eat, and put the kids to bed. But then of course there would be traffic during the day.”

Details: City Power 011 375 5555, Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck 083 619 2419, Ward 102 councillor David Potter 082 885 9688.
