Artist from all walks of life have been invited to submit their handmade art work for the most creative exhibition of the year.

Owner of the Corner Shop John Generalis said they called on artists to create or invent a gnomad based on their travelling gnome concept.

The idea was spurred by a French film called Le fabuleux destin d’Amelie Poulin, which involves stealing a gnome, taking it on a trip, and taking photos of it at famous landmarks, with the photos being mailed to the befuddled owner.

“The movie tells a story of a women named Amelie, who persuades her father to follow his dream of touring the world by stealing his garden gnome and having a flight attendant friend mail pictures of it posing with landmarks from all over the world,” explained Generalis.

“There are many references in popular culture to gnoming since the early ’90s. There are even some radicals known as garden gnome liberationists.”

The work artists submitted was a format of their choice.

Generalis said the idea is for people to come together and do something great.

He said they aim to grow the gnomadic exhibition. “A year from now, we will host the Gnome-coming Exhibition of the 2014 gnomads as well as any 2015 additions.

Buyers and artists will be invited to post photos on the Corner Shop website and Facebook page throughout the year.
