Mothers donate milk

MELVILLE – Cindy Lin and Rea Lurie talk about donating milk to save lives.

During the two-day South African Breastmilk Reserve wellbeing workshop in Melville, mothers came together to exchange tips and to encourage each other to donate milk for the less-fortunate newborn babies.

Cindy Lin, who has a five-month-old baby, said she started donating milk to SABR when her baby was just a month old.

“I just found out that I have way more than my baby will ever consume, so I thought of donating the extra milk to a needy baby,” said Lin.

She added that she pumps eight bottles of 160ml every night, and fills up to 200 bottles every month.

“I am doing this out of love, because I believe that I am saving more babies by doing this,” she said.

Rea Lurie, who was also attending the workshop, said she enjoys donating milk and fills a 180ml bottle a day.

” I believe that formula feeding is fast food and, by donating breast milk, we are able to save children from diseases,” she said.

Lurie hopes to inspire more women and encourage them to donate milk to SABR.
