Once too many times a crime victim

AUCKLAND PARK – Local resident tells of how terrified she is by crime in her area.

Crime in South Africa has become a worry.

In the recent release of the alarming crime statistics, the figures show that housebreaking with robberies increased by a staggering 12 per cent in Gauteng.

Auckland Park resident Ameera Jacobs explained that she doesn’t feel safe in her own area. “My sister and I attended the newly-formed Auckland Park Resident’s Association meeting. We were thrilled to find out that the community was coming together and addressing the issues that we all have about the area we live in.”

However, she added that “during the course of that night our cars were broken into. We are unsure of how the intruders got into our yard as we have electric fencing, barbed wire (on the walls that do not have electric fencing) as well as a lock on the gate. The thieves had the time to cut out my sister’s car window and took skip washing powder and house keys which belonged to her ex-husband,” said the terrified Jacobs.

Jacobs also informed that she is terrified for her family’s safety.

“The things that were stolen are not important, but what is more concerning is that they have now found a way into our yard without setting off the electric fence alarm.”

The distraught Jacobs stated that it was not the first time they had a burglary. “On previous occasions they had stolen car batteries, tyres, car radios and money.”

She suggested that their area should have a neighbourhood watch.

“We need to come together as a community and stop these thieves and thugs from breaking into our homes,” she concluded.
