Flying Squad brings resident to tears

WESTDENE – A member of the flying squad swore at woman who found human-like ears and bones in a house she recently purchased.

A Flying Squad member brought a resident to tears at a scene on 30 October in Westdene.

The resident had earlier attempted to take a photograph of the flying squad member when a state of pandemonium was unleashed.

The police were called to attend to a scene in their property in Westdene. The pair had found two human-like ears and bones in their property occupied by tenants.

“Just moments after we called, a Flying Squad cop came to the house with the guy who occupies the room where we found one ear,” said the resident who wishes to remain anonymous for safety reasons.

“This didn’t make sense to us because something that looks like a human ear was found in this guy’s room and here was the cop busy chit-chatting with him…Because drugs were also found we got suspicious and wondered where the cop got the guy and wondered about the possibilities of bribery,” she said.

As a result of their suspicions these new owners decided to take a photograph of what was happening.

“The cop started harassing my partner and shouting and swearing at us until [my partner] broke down in tears because she was scared and terrified by the person who is supposed to be protecting residents,” she said still seemingly frustrated by the situation.

The woman in tears called the Westdene Community Patrol (WCP) which she is part of.

“When the patrollers arrived, the cop continued shouting at them and everyone else. What kind of cop does that he is supposed to be protecting us,” said the complainant.

Sophiatown Police Station spokesperson TJ de Bruyn is looking into the matter.
