Vorentoe High School nominated for sports awards

WESTDENE - Vorentoe High school has been nominated for school team of the year for the 2014 sports awards taking place on 30 November.

Vorentoe High School will be among the crème de la crème of sports at this year’s South African Sports Awards after being nominated in the School Team of the Year category. This was announced by Minister of Sports and Recreation Fikile Mbalula during an announcement ceremony at the SABC studios in Auckland Park.

“When we found out that we are nominated for the awards we were so excited,” said principal and head coach of Voerentoe’s athletes Hans Saestad.

Speaking at the school, Saestad shared that he would be ecstatic if the school won.

“It would really be great if we got to win the awards because it would mean a lot to our pupils and we can do a lot with the money,” he said.

Athletes scout and life orientation teacher Oupa Maruping agreed.

“This is a big deal for us. If we don’t win I will be so disappointed,” he said.

“This nomination reveals that the hard work that we put here is finally paying off and our students are finally getting a recognition they deserve.”

Vorentoe is up against Virginia’s (Free State) Harmony High School and Cape Town’s Hoërskool Paarl Gimnasium.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre on 30 November.
