Car stolen at Hillfox

TRIOMF–A couple was left amazed after their car was stolen in a public place.

Imagine parking your car at a shopping centre and when you return the car is nowhere to be found.

Imagine the shock of the Triomf couple Frans Swanepoel and his girlfriend Bianca Hattingh experienced when their 2004 Runx went missing at Hillfox Value Centre on 12 October.

“We parked at about noon because we were going to watch a show at the centre and when we returned at about 3pm the car was gone,” recalled Hattingh seemingly still in shock.

She said the car had been locked and checked twice. “After we lock we always check so we were surprised that it had disappeared.”

Still in a state of bewilderment, the pair rushed to the security guards seeking answers. To their surprise, there security guard knew nothing.

“The guard said he didn’t see anything… but come on … someone should have seen something because it is not easy to steal a locked car,” Hattingh said.

Subsequent to losing such a valuable asset, the couple asked to speak to the manager.

“The guard called the manager but he said he was too far to come, what kind of manager is that?” asked Hattingh. “Until now we haven’t heard anything from management.”

According to Hattingh, Hillfox management has to make the place safer for their clients. “They get well-known singers and we want to go watch but they must make sure it is safe; they must put up cameras and get more security personnel,” she added.

A case has been opened with the Honeydew Police Station.

On the other hand, Hillfox Value Centre portfolio manager Simone Homan said she is unaware of the incident. “We don’t have any information because I don’t know about the incident. Nobody phoned me about this.”
