Gauteng ready for exams

JOBURG - Gauteng province pupils are ready for their National Senior Certificate examination

The countdown for the Grade 12 examination has finally begun.

It will be all systems go come 27 October when 143 647 Grade 12 pupils in Gauteng Province begin their National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination.

And some of the schools in the province are ready to embark on the exams.

Roosevelt High School’s deputy principal Henk Ferreira revealed that this year they are aiming for 100 per cent pass rate.

Last year, the school managed to get a brilliant 99.5 per cent pass rate.

“The preparations are going very well and we are fully ready,” said Ferreira.

Trinityhouse High in Randpark Ridge is also aiming for the stars. “[We are] most definitely ready for the 2014 IEB matric exams. We’ve had to work very hard in certain subjects to ensure our pupils are well prepared, especially, where the syllabuses have changed,”confirmed principal Christo de Wit.

“Leading up to the exams, we are assisting the Grade 12’s with a range of additional extra support classes to iron out some of the challenges they might be facing. We wish our matric pupils well with their exams,” he said.

There will be 928 centres across all the 15 Districts in Gauteng, writing the exams.

Since the beginning of the year, matric revision camps have been running on Saturdays and during school holidays to sustain the improved Grade12 performance over the past years.

The Department of Education has put measures into place to have Child Line assist pupils who find themselves in stressful situations from the exams.

Pupils can phone Child Line on 08000 55 555 for counselling assistance.

The results of the exams will be released on 6 January 2015 at schools.
