NEWS JUST IN: Jub Jub not guilty of murder

METRO – Molemo 'Jub Jub' Maarohanye and his co-accused have had their sentences significantly reduced at the Johannesburg High Court.

Hip-hop artist Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye’s and Themba Tshabalala’s murder convictions have been overturned.
The Johannesburg High Court on 8 October converted the sentences to culpable homicide.
They have been sentenced to an effective eight years in jail from the initial life conviction.
The pair had in June filed for an appeal, stating that their convictions should be altered because he was not in absolute control of his faculties as he was high on drugs.
Judge George Maluleke and his team of appeal judges said the dolus eventualis charges could not stand.
Four years ago, Jub Jub killed four pupils in Protea Glen. They were both found guilty on four counts of murder which earned them a life sentence.
The pair was also found guilty on three other counts which are attempted murder, reckless driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
The judge altered the four counts of murder to four counts of culpable homicide and set aside the driving under the influence and attempted murder charges.
He sentenced the pair to 10 years, with two years suspended, and insisted that the sentence be back dated to when the pair were originally sentenced in October 2012.
