Ice bucket challenge at Roosevelt High

ROOSEVELT - Roosevelt high school educators and management put their bodies on the line for a worthy charity

Roosevelt High School embarked on an ice bucket challenge on 2 October.

The school’s educators and management committed themselves to support the fight against violence against women and children, the action against bullying, motor neuron disease (MND) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis'(ALS) ice bucket challenge.

Deputy principal Henk Ferreira stated, “We would like to make as many pupils as possible aware of the J9 Foundation and the work Joost does for the research of motor neuron disease. Therefore, we have decided to start an inter-schools ice bucket challenge under Roosevelt High Inter-Schools Ice Bucket Challenge.

“Nine of our educators and senior management have put their bodies on the line for the sake of the J9 Foundation and took the plunge from our pupils.”

Each staff member has nominated a counterpart from Northcliff and Greenside high schools in order to start the project.

The deadline for their challenge is 31 October.

“The aim is to get educators and pupils actively involved in the community as a unit. Hopefully, this initiative will grow and make thousands aware of MND and ALS,” concluded Ferreira

Millions across the world are also participating in the challenge and donating funds toward various ALS and MND research facilities, which will enable them to ultimately find a cure.
