Curves ambassador shows how to shake it

NORTHCLIFF – Dancing is fun, it's entertaining and it's healthy. Miss Beauty British Curves 2014, Yvonne Cardoso put these words into practice at Northcliff Hill Nursery School.

Yvonne Cardoso, Miss Beauty British Curve 2014 showed the pre-schoolers at Northcliff Hill Nursery School how to shake it on 5 September.

South African born Cardoso, who swept up awards at the Miss Curvy UK this year, demonstrated Dance Flavourz – her own form of dance to eager learners at the nursery school.

“Dancing should be encouraged from an early age so that it becomes a part of fun-time in nurseries. It can form a great platform for children who want to take up dance as a profession in later life,” Cardosa said.

“All of the awards I have won were a great achievement for me, but I think that winning the title was the cherry on top as now I can be an ambassador for curvy woman all over that think, because they have curves, they cannot be in the entertainment and modelling industry. In general, people think that size 10 and below is the norm for the industry which is not true.”

Cardosa was in South Africa from 31 August to 14 September to open up a children’s dance franchise for kids aged two to five years old. The styles the pre-schoolers are taught vary from from hip-hop to Latin, Bollywood, cheerleading, cowboys and even African-inspired dances.

“The children enjoy it, and so do I,” she said.

Cardosa said the variety of styles taught makes the classes fun, entertaining and provides healthy exercise. The kids at Northcliff Hill Nursery School seemed to agree.
