RiverWel Resident’s Association always on the lookout for new members

WELTEVREDENPARK - Residents association chairperson Kevin Thomson urges residents to join association.

The chairperson of the RiverWel Resident’s Association Kevin Thomson is calling on residents to join the association that has been in existence since 1997.

“We have been an active member of the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) since the start and our mission statement is to provide a safe environment for all the residents in our area.”

He added that all of the volunteers, who work with the association, are not paid for their work.

“The fact that they are unpaid does not deter residents from helping out and they stay loyal to the association, as we have built up some of these relationships since the start of the association.”

He explained that the association has been involved in many community projects over the years.

“We have launched a patrol operation where volunteers take turns to monitor the area after hours and report on any strange activities. We have also been assigned with a Sector 2 police vehicle that patrols our area on a daily basis.”

Thomson said security companies like BestSecure and Community Support Services (CSS) also serve the community and are in the area 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We have also erected two advertising boards at two of the main entrances to the area with vital contact numbers and advertising space.”

He said a large number of committee members also serve on the Honeydew CPF executive committee, which is crucial in making the area safer.

“Residents who want to sign up and become part of the association can feel free to give me a call to obtain more information.”
