Reaching out to geese

WESTDENE - Geese at Westdene have been so spoiled by the kind efforts of the community that they may no longer want to go back to eating simple grass.

If the geese of Westdene could talk, they would surely be thanking the suburb’s inhabitants.

After a recent report that the geese were starving, kind residents have donated a variety of foodstuffs to the animals.

“Many people have called us to come and collect food for the animals,” Frikkie Botes, who has been heading up a goose-feeding scheme in the suburb reported on 11 August.

“Some people have donated potato peels, some have been going to the dam to feed them pellets, others have collected bags of vegetables for us to take to the geese. I’m sure those birds are very greatful.”

The kindness of the community is ensuring that these birds are no longer stalking the streets in search of food.
