Totalsports Ladies race

EMMARENTIA - Totalsports Ladies Race celebrated National Women's day on 9 August in support of PinkDrive.

Roosevelt High School came alive on 9 August during the Totalsports Ladies Race in celebration of National Women’s Day.

The Totalsports Ladies Race was done in support of Pinkdrive which is a public benefit organisation that is committed to promoting breast cancer awareness and providing breast health education and services to men and women across the country.

Family and friends flocked together at Roosevelt High School to make their mark in raising awareness. The highlight of the day was when men wore skirts to the race.

“This was the first time in two years that the weather agreed with us; it was awesome and it was great seeing men wearing skirts just to support women,”said public relations Jacky McClean.

“The Totalsports Ladies Race is ideal for the whole family, from moms with prams, children, husbands, family and friends.”

There were two distances to choose from, a 5km run/fun walk and a 10km run/fun walk.

The 10km saw Lebohang Phalula taking top honours in a time of 00:36:01:00

“I am very happy with today’s win,” said Phalula, “I didn’t race much last year because I was pregnant. I thought my sister would win today, so I was hoping for a top-three position. It’s my first win in two years. I had a good race and really enjoyed the support on route. I will definitely be back next year to defend my title.”

Mapaseka Makhanya came in second with 00:37:09:00 while Rutendo Nyahora finished third with 00:37:23:00
