Maimane gets involved in Slipper Day

CRESTA – DA Parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane gets involved in the Reach for a Dream Slipper Day charity event.

You may have seen people wearing slippers in public and professional places on 1 August and perhaps thought residents were going crazy. Harsh! They are indeed going crazy. Craze for charity and helping children with life-threatening diseases.

Friday 1 August was the annual Reach for a Dream Slipper Day. South Africans were asked to wear their slippers to wherever they were going and purchase a R10 sticker at Wimpy or Makro outlets.

Even the fairly newly elected DA Parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane and his wife Natalie were in support of this charity event. This benevolent couple rocked their slippers at Wimpy Cresta, wearing their stickers to demonstrate the importance of community service.

“I think it is important that we help others the best way we can; there are a lot of children that are going to benefit from this,” said Mmusi as he made a payment for his stickers.

Mmusi is no stranger to seeing children suffer with rare and life-threatening illnesses.

“I have a family member who is a Down-syndrome; it is very difficult because every part of life is difficult, getting into a school is also difficult; so I am in full support of this initiative because I know on a personal level that it will make a huge difference,” he said.

Natalie said the Maimane family is no stranger to lend a hand where possible.

“For years we have been involved in several charity organisations; we try to take what we can because to us quality is better than quantity so we try to make sure whatever charity we get involved in gets all our attention,” she said.

Sabio Communications based in Blackheath was also in support of the initiative and managing director Litha Sabio shared her enthusiasm for this slipper day.

“It is good that foundations like this help children and I hope they will raise the money they set out to raise. Politicians like Maimane also show the public the importance to get involved within the community,” said Sabio.

The Reach for a Dream Foundation is happy about the support they received for this initiative.

“The response is amazing. We were very blessed by the school, celebrities, the public and everybody came out, this had a snowball effect which was amazing,” says Bronwyn Feldwick-Davis Reach for a Dream Foundation National Marketing and Communications Manager.
